This Is How I Roll ...
People get all hung up on "developmental milestones" like rolling over. I don't know what all the fuss is about - I'm only five weeks old and I rolled over just this morning. It's really easy - here, I'll show you how:
First, get good grip on a really cool orange and blue blanket ...
then push really hard ...
this is the tricky part, but don't get scared ...
and then, well, just, you know, FLIP! And try not to roll into the table leg.
What? Only a 9.0 from one of the judges? I nailed that dismount!

Whose Birthday?
You say it's somebody's birthday? Somebody's one month old? I can't imagine who that could be.
What? Me? No way. I can't be that old, heck, I can't even COUNT that high.
It's really me? Well, then let's PARTY!
And then I don't know about you, but I'm gonna need a nap.

Happy (belated) Thanksgiving
For my first Thanksgiving, I ... well, I slept, mostly. But I looked festive doing it in my turkey outfit.
We all went over to Grandma and Graddaddy's house. Because I slept so much, there aren't many pictures of me there. But I did get to meet my Aunt Liz. We bonded a little.
Then I went back to sleep.
But I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving too!

Ball o' Lela
There's no denying that I'm a good sized baby (see my bath pictures below if you don't believe me!). But sometimes when Daddy's holding me I'm so comfortable and happy that I just curl up in a tiny little ball.
Maybe this is why Daddy calls me "Squidgy" - it's an odd nickname, but he came up with it the very night I was born and it seems to be sticking.

The Prime Minister Takes A Soak
Ahh, there, nothing like a good sudsy soak after a long day ...
What? What! Stop looking at me!
**My parents are concerned that some of you may be uncomfortable with the fact that they refer to me, a three-week old baby (as of tonight), as a certain legendary UK Prime Minister. I say get over it. Sometimes I DO look like Winston Churchill. I'll probably grow out of it.

A Little Lovin' From My Big Sis
You know, I like Mami and Daddy a lot, but every now and then I just need to have a good cuddle with my sister.

Whose Chin is That?
I've heard Mami and Nana talk about the famous "Shea Chin." I think I may have discovered what they were talking about ...
Or maybe I was just really, really hungry.

My Future As A Theatre Critic
Earlier today Mami and Daddy took me to my big sister's Thanksgiving program at her school. I waited patiently for the program to start, as you can see here ...
But a girl can only wait so long before ...
I swear, it's no reflection on the quality of the performance.

Busy, As Always
There's so much to be done out here. They keep me busy ALL the time. For instance, my parents seem obsessed with this "bath" idea. I don't get it, but I do have to say that the spa treatments continue to be first rate.
I end up spending quite a bit of time keeping Daddy up-to-date on the latest in baby tech. Here I am explaining (for the umpteenth time) how to make the music play in my Baby Einstein Play Gym:
Oh, and I sleep. Quite a lot. And I look good doing it.

"We shall fight them on the beaches ..."
My parents swear that while I sleep and when I'm fussy I bear a striking resemblance to Winston Churchill. They've taken to calling me "the prime minister."

My First Doctor's Visit
Last Friday I visited Doctor Grooms for my first checkup. They keep telling me it wasn't that bad, and that I should be glad I didn't get any shots, but as you can see, I am NOT glad about any part of it. Apparently my big sister Resli goes to this same doctor - they showed me a picture of one of her first visits.
Thank goodness Mami was there - I felt much better after talking (ok, screaming and crying) to her about it.
And then when I got home I hung out with Nana for a little while and Resli came over to give me kisses and tell how brave I was being about the whole thing. She's a great big sister and I'm glad I have her for a role model.

How I spend my days
Many of you have inquired what I do with all my spare time, since unlike my big sister, I don't go to school yet, and unlike my parents, I am not yet gainfully employed. Be assured, however, that my days are just packed.
I like to start the day with a nice spa treatment. This place Mami and Daddy call "the kitchen" is just the best for a relaxing shampoo and massage - you'll really have to visit.
I spend a lot of the day practicing my licks and creating catchy riffs. I rock. Hard.
And then I like to sit in Daddy's lap for a bit of conversation, but he's SOOOO comfortable I just can't stay awake no matter how interesting the discussion.

Gosh it's bright out here.
Hi there! Here I am, in all my glory! As you can see above, I made my appearance late Monday evening after several hours of tense negotiations between me, Mami and the nursing staff. Here's one of my first pictures ... you should be aware that I'm not always this serious.
Here I am with ...
Nana and my big sister Resli (she's REALLY cool - but I don't know if I'll ever be able to keep up with her) ...
Grandma ...
Granddaddy ...
and Mami's doctor, Dr. Brazzel.
Lot's of people have given me great gifts already, but the best is this I-Pod they gave me at the hospital ...
Wait, you say that's NOT an I-Pod? It's a hearing test?!?! Ok, somebody owes me some gadgets. Daddy, take me home. Now.

What a silly world this is going to be ...
As you may be aware, I'm supposed to be here already. The original "due-date" was the 27th, and as you see in the two pictures below, Mami and Daddy have prepared a lovely room for me right next to my big sister's room. All that said, I'm a little concerned about this pumpkin fixation the outside world seems to have. Yesterday apparently my sister let my parents buy a pumpkin for me, as you see in the first picture. I guess that's ok, but I'm not sure what it's for.
But then Mami painted a picture of a pumpkin on her belly RIGHT ON TOP OF MY ROOM! What is a girl to do? So until I can figure out this pumpkin business I think I'll just stay put.
If you have any suggestions please leave them here ... I promise I'll check in and read your comments. And I'll probably be joining you soon - Mami and Daddy are a little odd, but I think I'm ready to meet them anyway!
Thanks for reading. I'll see you soon...

I'm still growing!
We haven't had the opportunity to take any pictures of me lately, but Dr. Brazzel says I'm growing just fine. Only 12 more weeks left...
As proof of my continued growth, here's a picture of my Mami, who seems to grow right along with me!
I'll see you all in just a few months!

I Don't Believe We've Been Properly Introduced ...
My name is Lela Dorothy Ward. As my big sister would say, "what's YOUR name?" My Mami and Daddy took me to have my picture taken today. The first picture you see below is, well, proof that I'm a Lela and not some boy. I know the picture's a little hard to figure out, but trust me on this one.
Lela is my Daddy's maternal grandmother's name and Dorothy is my Mami's maternal grandmother's name, and you know how "green" Mami and Daddy are, so they decided to recycle both of those names. They've promised to tell me stories about both Lela and Dorothy one day.
The picture below is a little more ... dignified ... than the first one:
Sometimes I like to get a little silly (I get that from my big sister), like in the next picture where you can see me blowing bubbles. At least that's what Daddy says it looks like.
Ok, that's all for now. Remember, be nice to Mami and Daddy and Resli. I want them all to be in a good mood when I make my debut.
I can't wait to meet all of you!

Here I Grow Again!
Hello again everyone!
As you can see, I've been busy since we last spoke - here are some more pictures of me.
In this one you can see that I'm not ALL head anymore, and everything is growing and developing.

In this next one, you can't see most of my body because of the way they took the picture, but you CAN see all the fingers (and thumb) on one of my hands, and both my feet! How about that - isn't technology amazing?

Ok, I'm going to get back to work now - you just keep thinking about me and talk to me whenever you get a chance. Oh yeah, tell my big sister I said "Hi" when you see her. See you soon!

hello ... (tap tap tap) ... is this thing on?
Hi! I'm Resli's new brother or sister (I'm not really sure which yet. There's plenty of time to figure all that out). Nice to meet you, and thanks for visiting my blog. That's my picture up there - the big oval thing is my head, and I think I was sucking my thumb (or at least what's going to be my thumb one of these days) when they took the picture earlier today.
Now, I can't see you people out there, but I hear lots of people talking and making noise. Mostly I hear my Mami, she sounds like a really sweet person and I can't wait to give her a big kiss. I also hear a little girl - that must be Resli. She says hello to me every day and I think she kisses Mami's tummy, which is where I live these days. I hear my Daddy too. He talks a lot and he seems to have an opinion on everything. I'll work on my own opinions so we can have a good talk one of these days. I think there are lots of other people out there too, and I'm looking forward to meeting all of you, but you'll have to be patient.
I'm still very small, which is good, because as you can see, there isn't a lot of room to stretch out where I live. I heard Dr. Brazzel tell Mami and Daddy today that she and I are very healthy and I'm doing everything I should be doing. He didn't say anything about Daddy and Resli, but I'm sure they're ok too. My heart beats really fast all the time -- about 167 times every minute -- so all my parts can start growing. When all my parts are just right, which should be sometime between October 27th and 31st, I'll let Mami and Dr. Brazzel know I'm ready for my debut.
I'll try to keep in touch between now and then. Until then, please be patient, be nice to Mami, Daddy and Resli and feel free to talk to me whenever you see Mami's tummy.
Love,
New Baby Ward
