Step by step
Step by step, I'm getting the hang of this walking thing. I've taken two and sometimes three steps all by myself. I still want to craw or hold on to someone's hand, but I'm getting there!
(Yikes, the video came out dark! Sorry!)
Lela Dorothy Ward was born at 10:30pm on October 29th, 2007. She weighed 8 pounds 5 ounces and measured 21 inches. Lela was her father's maternal grandmother's name, and Dorothy was her mother's maternal grandmother's name. Check back for updates as she continues to grow...

Upon waking up this morning, we realized that today is the 29th of August. Do you know what that means? That I was born 10 months ago!
It's hard to believe, but I found a sign to prove it, check this out:
I know, for real - can you believe it?
Very cool, I know!
And I'm big enough to do some work around the house too. After our photo shoot I decided to help Mami fold my diapers. She really appreciated it. I'm just glad to help!

I make some really funny faces when I'm playing by myself and think nobody's looking. Sometimes I stick out my bottom lip.
But my favorite is this fish face, which I do all the time:
Silly, huh?
I know, I make myself laugh too!

Mami and Resli were snacking on grapes this morning and I was desperate to try some. So Mami gave me a tiny bite of hers, and here's how I reacted:
And yet, I kept begging for more. Perhaps grapes are an acquired taste?

Even though Mami's back to work --the fall semester starts Monday!-- we've still managed to find time to hang out together at home. I love playing in the living room, there's so much to do.
I love Resli's purse, I carry it around with me a lot.
And this pink chair, which is also Resli's but she's generous enough to let me use it too, is the perfect place to sit and rest.
And to catch up on my reading as well.
But I get a little tired of the same old baby books, and have been showing a real interest in Stephen King lately. (Incidentally, Resli was a fan of his too!)
And then just to keep Mami on her toes, I hopped in to the food basket!
But it's all fun. She's sure going to miss me once classes start up again.

As you may know if you've read Resli's blog lately, we've had some problems with our house that are going to require some renovations or, at the very least, repairs. (You can read about it here if you haven't already.) But we also have some other improvements in mind anyway, so yesterday we all took a trip to Lowes to see what kind of inspiration we could muster.
Resli and I loved all the colors chips in the paint section.
We helped Mami and Daddy pick out a great color for a new painting endeavor they've got in mind... But it's a secret until it's done. I'll show you pictures then. For now, I'm not telling!
Then we worked our way over to the bathroom section. Resli was surprised by all the faucets and stuff, but I was just kind of calmly checking it all out and taking it all in.
We thought the different tub/shower options were pretty interesting.
We can't wait to see what their new bathroom looks like!

My sister Resli and I love to play around the house on Saturday mornings. We're never quite sure what we want to do or which toys we want, so we often get everything out, starting with the books...
... and ending with general destruction and chaos throughout the house.
Mami considers it a sign of her great maturity, patience and general easy-going-ness that she only needs to clean up a couple of times a day now, rather than every few minutes. We're glad we can help her with that.

Today was my 9-month check up with Dr. Grooms. They call this a "well visit" although I think they should change the name, at least for me. More on that in a minute.
When we got there I discovered all the great toys they had in the waiting room. This is just like the one I have at home, although it doesn't speak Spanish like mine does.
Resli did a good job of showing me the other toys to play with. (She had her own adventures at the doctor's office too, check her blog for her version of events!)
I did a good job of entertaining myself by working on my cruising skills. I've also gotten quite good at standing unassisted.
Then in the examining room I started to get a little nervous, so Resli came up on the table to comfort me.
Then everything went by in a blur.
It turns out that on one hand, I'm very healthy:

There we were, minding our own vusiness, when Daddy came in with a vig vox addressed to me and Resli. It was a package from Grandpa! We immediately opened it up to find two adorable vests, one for each of us!

Look how big and tall I'm getting!
These shorts, for the record, are sized 18 months!
I just keep growing and growing. I go for my 9 month check-up next week, we're all curious to see just how much I've grown!

I've taken a real liking to Cheerios lately. They're the perfect finger food and they're yummy. HOWEVER, one can have too much of a good thing, and I'm getting a little tired of them at every meal.
So, I'm taking matters into my own hands. I pulled out some cookbooks, and I'm figuring out what we'll make next.
This one looks good... but I don't think we have all the ingredients. (Mami never goes shopping!)
All right then, it's back to the old stand by, the Joy of Cooking. I'm sure I'll find something here.
